FARNHAM SPORTS COUNCIL

The Farnham Sports Council is an independent, voluntary body which represents the sporting interests of the people of Farnham and the surrounding districts. The FSC acts to promote sport in the community at all levels, to safeguard existing facilities, to identify sporting needs in the area and provides a forum where clubs and individuals can present their views on sporting matters to local authorities and other interested organisations.

The aims of the Sports Council are:-

  • To assess the sporting and recreational needs in the Farnham District and to help with catering for these needs.
  • To examine the need for improving exsisting facilities and to offer advice to Farnham Town Council, Waverley Borough Council and other organisations on provision of new facilities.
  • To assist with the dissemination of information on available sporting and recreation facilities and oppotunities, and to maintain an up-to-date record of sporting organisations.
  • To provide Waverley Borough Council, Farnham Town Council and other interested organisations with a body of opinion reflecting generally the views of local sports and recreation interests on matters concerning the development of sports and recreation in the District of Farnham.
  • In consultation and collaboration with the local Education Authority and other bodies, to encourage school leavers, youth and adults to continue to take part in physical education.
  • To take such action as the Sports Council deems necessary on reports and recommendations from any organisation dealing with sports and recreation in the Farnham District.

FARNHAM SPORTS AWARDS 2015

Nominees should meet at least 2 of the criteria below.

JUNIOR UNDER 14 and UNDER 18 AND SENIOR

Will be presented to an individual in recognition of their commitment and achievement in their chosen sport in the last 12 months.

  1. Made significant progress in the field of sport.
  2. Had significant impact on sport locally and has been an inspiration to others.
  3. Exceeded expectations in their sporting performance or made significant difference to a team

JUNIOR TEAM AND SENIOR TEAM

Will be presented to members of a team in recognition of their commitment and achievement in their team sport in the last 12 months. Juniors under 18 at lst September 2014.

  1. Achieved success and competed at a consistently high level throughout the year.
  2. Demonstrated fair play and a good sporting attitude throughout the year.
  3. Shown significant improvement from previous years.

DISABILITY AWARDS

Will be presented to an individual, team or enabler in recognition of their commitment and achievement in their chosen sport in the last 12 months.

  1. Made a significant impact on disability sport and been an inspiration to others.
  2. Devoted continuous time and resources to the development of disability spsort.
  3. Overcome barriers to excel in sport.
  4. Been a role model/mentor for disabled sports people.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Will be presented to an individual who can demonstrate their dedication to coaching sport locally over the last 12 months.

  1. Minimum of Level 2 NGB coaching award in lthe sport they are being nominated for.
  2. Made a positive impact by increasing participation and /or inspiring and encouraging others to improve their sport.
  3. Evidence of personal development in the last 12 months.
  4. A professional approach with excellent dedication.

CLUB OF THE YEAR

Will be presented to a club who have significantly contributed to sport in the local area over the past 12 months.

  1. A proven track record of working with schools, local authorities and other community organisations.
  2. Evidence of a commitment to effective recruitment, recognition and training of volunteers, coaches and players.
  3. Actively encouraged participation from underpresented groups (e.g. people with a disability).
  4. Implemented a new idea and demonstrated innovation.

Please state if the club has achieved clubmark or NGB affiliation.

YOUNG VOLUNTEER AND VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

This award is for an Administrator, Coach, Official or General Helper who has

  1. Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to a sport or club.
  2. Made a tremendous impact on a club or organisation through volunteering.
  3. Shown a commitment to personal development, team working and supporting the development of other volunteers.

Young Volunteers should be under 18 on 1st September 2014.

SERVICE TO SPORT

Will be presented to an individual who has made a major input into sport in the local community over a long period of time.

  1. Contributed significantly to sport in the local area over a minimum of 5 years.
  2. Demonstrated continued enthusiasm and has devoted time and resource to enable others to take part.
  3. Increased participation and enjoyment of sport and made a positive impact in their local community.
